Play Ideas and Advice - Bake Their Name
A great game to keep your kids entertained right until the last crumb has disappeared into their tummies. This is also fantastic for learning the alphabet and recognising familiar names.You will need:
- 1 tbsp quick acting yeast
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tbsp oil
Utensils:
- Measuring cup
- Wooden spoon
- Bowl
- Plastic knives and forks
- Baking tray
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (adults only)
- Measure the water, sugar and yeast into a bowl and mix together. Wait a couple of minutes for the yeast to work.
- Stir in one cup of flour then add the oil, salt and last cup of flour.
- Flour the worktop.
- Place the dough on the worktop and knead for about 5 minutes (if sticky add a little bit extra flour).
- Put the dough in a bowl and cover – leave to rise for 45 minutes
- Punch the dough down and make into a ball.
- Separate the dough ball into smaller sections (as many as you need to spell their name)
- Using the plastic implements, shape the dough into the letters of their name, family name, or familiar objects.
- Put dough letters onto the baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
What kids can do:
- Help to measure, pour and mix ingredients.
- Test the dough consistency,
- Sprinkle flour onto worktop.
- Decide what word to make.
- Help shape letters (use a letter card to give your child something to copy).
- Watch dough rise in oven.
