Play Ideas and Advice - Hopskotch Or Hopscotch
An oldie but a goodie. What You Need:
- Chalk
- Spare stretch of pavement
- Stone, pebble, or ideally beanbag (damage limitation)
- Oh… and energy and a good dose of fun!
What to do:
Mark out the hopscotch pitch using empty squares. Start with one box, then two, then another one, then two, then one, another two and finishing with one. Well, anything from 7 up to 10 boxes. Basically, 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 formation, always ending with one box. Then, starting at the bottom square mark from 1 to 7 (or 10) moving left to right when you are marking the two square formation.
The Game:
Player 1 throws his or her marker into the square marked number '1' and then jumps to number 2 (basically, on the first jump the player will jump with their feet in boxes number 2 and 3). The player continues up the hopscotch pitch and then turns to come back, stopping at square number 2 (WITHOUT falling over) to pick up their marker.
The player is out if they miss the next sequential square when they throw their marker, hop on a line, loses their balance when bending to pick up the marker, or steps in the square where the marker is.
The aim of the game... play your marker all the way up the Hopscotch pitch without being out!
Try:
As an alternative why not use the letters of the alphabet instead? It will help kids to learn the sequence of the alphabet at an early age.
